Bharat Desai is an Indian American entrepreneur and founder of Syntel. He currently serves as Chairman of Syntel headquartered in Troy, Michigan.[2] Desai co-founded Syntel in 1980 with his future wife Neerja Sethi. As of April 16, 2009, it had a market capitalization of $943 million.[3] Desai was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and won the IIT Alumnus of the Year award from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He was also the recipient of the Michigan Entrepreneur Award from the Harvard Business School and recognized as Entrepreneur Of the Year by USA Today and NASDAQ.[4]
Desai is a Board Member of several educational institutions, including the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Desai received an MBA in finance from Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai, India.[4]
